Chapter One

A Life Defined by Service

Chris represents a life shaped by service and the belief that what we learn in uniform carries forward long after we leave it. His Marine Corps career placed him in different roles and environments, each reinforcing the importance of leadership, adaptability, and investing in the people around him.

But Chris’s story is also about what comes next. He believes the impact of service is measured by what you continue to give, the people you influence, and the example you leave behind.

Project Valor preserves stories like Chris’s because military service may have an end date, but its legacy does not.

Chapter Two

Service Never Leaves You

For Chris, the Marine Corps was never defined by a single job or assignment. He entered the service in 1994, originally slated to become a motor transport operator, but his path would take him through a much broader range of responsibilities.

From serving as a Roadmaster to pursuing officer training and later stepping into recruiting, Chris experienced the Marine Corps from different perspectives. He learned what it meant to be responsible for the mission, to develop as a leader, and ultimately to find and prepare others who were willing to answer the same call to serve.

Each role demanded something different from him, but the principles remained the same: adapt to what is in front of you, take responsibility for the people around you, and leave them better prepared than when you found them.

When Chris left the Marine Corps in 2002, those principles came with him. His time in uniform ended, but his responsibility to lead, mentor, and make a difference did not.

That is what legacy means to Chris. It isn't simply what you accomplished while you served. It's what you carry forward and what you leave in others.

Today

Legacy

Chris’s example shows that service is only the beginning of the legacy we leave behind. The lessons he carried from the Marine Corps continue to shape how he leads, mentors, and serves others—proving that the influence of a veteran can extend far beyond their time in uniform.
